Who is Trisha Singh?

Meet Trisha Singh, a sophomore at Greenwood High International School who's making waves in Bangalore's tech scene. This teenage changemaker is redefining what it means to be a young woman in STEM. As the creator and voice behind "STEMinist Voices," Trisha amplifies the stories of women breaking barriers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Her podcast isn't just content – it's a movement, celebrating the often-overlooked achievements of female pioneers in these fields. Public speaking comes naturally to this young innovator, backed by years of training at the Bangalore School of Speech and Drama. With a LAMDA certification up to Grade 3 and distinctions across the board, she's as comfortable behind a microphone as she is behind a computer screen. How did you choose to pursue this field?

I’ve always been passionate about technology and problem-solving, but as I explored the field of STEM, I noticed a glaring gap—women’s contributions were often overlooked, and their voices weren’t amplified enough. That realization fueled my desire to not only pursue STEM but also create a space where women in the field could share their journeys, challenges, and achievements. That’s how STEMinist Voices was born—a podcast dedicated to celebrating and empowering women in STEM.

Additionally, I plan to pursue Computer Science, and as I explored the field, I realized how important it is to have strong role models and mentors. That’s why I started STEMinist Voices—to not only celebrate women in STEM but also to expose myself and other young girls to inspiring figures who can guide and motivate us. This podcast keeps us connected, builds a sense of community and sisterhood, and helps break down barriers for future generations of women in STEM. Through these conversations, I hope to inspire young girls, break stereotypes, and highlight the incredible impact women have in these fields.

Who was your inspiration or role model that guided you to this field?

My biggest inspiration has been my father. His passion for problem-solving and innovation sparked my interest in Computer Science, and his constant encouragement has pushed me to explore new technologies. At the same time, seeing the gender gap in tech motivated me to advocate for more representation.

The stories of trailblazing women in STEM, from pioneers like Ada Lovelace and Grace Hopper to modern-day leaders, have reinforced my passion for this field. That’s why I started STEMinist Voices—to amplify these stories, expose young girls (including myself) to role models and mentors, and build a strong, connected community in STEM.

What do you love most about your job?

What I love most about what I do is the impact it creates. Whether it’s through STEMinist Voices my research, or my tech projects, I get to explore innovative solutions while also empowering others. I enjoy connecting with inspiring women in STEM, sharing their stories, and creating a space where young girls (including myself) can find role models and mentors. I also love the thrill of problem-solving—whether it’s coding, experimenting with AI, or tackling real-world challenges. The combination of technology, advocacy, and continuous learning keeps me excited and motivated every day!

What has been the most rewarding aspect of your job or career?

The most rewarding part of running STEMinist Voices is knowing that it’s making a difference. Seeing the likes, views, and followers grow is exciting, but what truly means the most is when someone tells me that an episode inspired them to take action—whether it’s a young girl deciding to explore STEM, a student feeling more confident in their abilities, or someone finding motivation from a guest’s journey. Those moments remind me why I started this podcast in the first place. Knowing that my platform is not just reaching people but also encouraging them to step into STEM and break barriers makes all the effort worthwhile.

What has been the most difficult or disappointing aspect of your job?

One of the most challenging aspects of running STEMinist Voices is finding guests. While there are so many incredible women in STEM with inspiring stories, reaching out, coordinating schedules, and organising interviews can be tough.

Another challenge is the editing process—it takes a lot of time and effort to ensure each episode is polished and engaging. From refining audio quality to structuring the conversation effectively, it’s a meticulous process. But despite these difficulties, the impact of the podcast makes it all worth it.

Seeing listeners connect with the content and feel inspired keeps me motivated to push through the challenges!

How have you combated the stigma of being a "woman of color" in STEM?

I personally haven’t faced stigma as a woman of color in STEM, but I know many others have. That’s one of the reasons I started STEMinist Voices—to create a space where these stories can be heard and celebrated. Through my podcast, I’ve had the privilege of speaking with incredible women who have overcome challenges and broken barriers.

Their journeys inspire me, and I hope that by sharing them, I can help young girls see that they belong in STEM, no matter their background. It’s about building a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and encouraged to chase their passions fearlessly.

What tips would you offer for anyone thinking about entering into your profession?

If you’re thinking about starting a podcast, especially one that aims to create impact, my biggest advice is—just start. You don’t need the perfect setup or a huge following right away. What matters most is having a strong purpose and being consistent. Through STEMinist Voices, I’ve learned that finding guests takes patience, editing is time-consuming, and growth isn’t instant—but every conversation is worth it.

Engage with your audience, ask thoughtful questions, and always be open to learning from your guests. Storytelling is powerful, so focus on making your content relatable and authentic. And most importantly, don’t get discouraged by numbers in the beginning—if your podcast inspires even one person, you’re making a difference!

Can you provide some words of wisdom to young ladies considering entering a STEM field as a career choice?

From everything I’ve learned through STEMinist Voices and the amazing women I’ve interviewed, one message stands out—you belong in STEM. Many of my guests have faced challenges, doubts, or even imposter syndrome, but they pushed forward because they knew their passion mattered more than any stereotype.

If you’re thinking about pursuing STEM, don’t be afraid to take up space, ask questions, and seek out mentors who support you. There’s no one “right way” to succeed—some of the most brilliant women I’ve spoken to took unconventional paths and still made a huge impact. Most importantly, don’t let the fear of being the only woman in the room hold you back—be the reason that changes.

When I started STEMinist Voices, I aimed to create a platform that would reach and inspire countless young women in STEM. Even if my episodes don’t go viral, every message from a listener saying they felt seen or motivated reminds me that I’m making a difference.

In STEM, I set big goals—whether it’s pursuing AI research, building impactful projects, or aiming for top universities. Things don’t always go exactly as planned, but every challenge I take on pushes me to grow and get closer to my dreams.

Even in everyday life, whether it’s running with my dad, experimenting with coding, or advocating for women in STEM, I remind myself that it’s not just about reaching the destination—it’s about how far I’ve come. So, I keep aiming high, knowing that no matter what, I’ll still land among the stars.

What are your future goals related to your career?

My future goal is to pursue Computer Science at Purdue University and specialize in AI-driven solutions for real-world challenges. I want to work on AI applications that can make a tangible impact—whether it's developing smarter accident prevention systems, improving AI-powered surveillance to combat poaching, or creating technology that enhances public safety and efficiency.

One of the biggest challenges in AI today is ensuring that technology is ethical, unbiased, and accessible. I want to contribute to AI research that reduces algorithmic bias, enhances decision-making transparency, and ensures AI is used responsibly in high-stakes fields like healthcare, security, and conservation.

Through STEMinist Voices, I also hope to continue amplifying the voices of women in STEM, sharing their stories, struggles, and successes. Too often, women in tech are under-represented, and I want to break that cycle by creating a space where young girls can find mentors, role models, and inspiration to confidently pursue STEM.

In the long run, I see myself leading AI research, building impactful solutions, and possibly launching a startup focused on AI for social good. But beyond that, I want to ensure that STEM isn't just a space for innovation but also one for inclusion, empowerment, and change.

What are some interesting facts about yourself that you would like to share?

Professional yapper – I started a podcast, so clearly, I love talking!

Champion napper – I can fall asleep anywhere, anytime. A true talent.

I don’t have Prime Video, Netflix, Hotstar, or even a TV! While most people binge-watch shows, I spend my time podcasting, coding, running, grinding or just napping.
